The Sovol SV08, released June 2024, is a Voron 2.4-inspired CoreXY printer delivered 90% pre-assembled for around $529. Built with 7 linear rails, a flying gantry with 4 independent Z motors for Quad-Gantry Leveling (QGL), and an AC-powered heated bed, it reaches 700 mm/s across a 350×350×345 mm build volume. Klipper ships pre-configured with Input Shaper, Pressure Advance, and Obico cloud monitoring. Sovol donates $2 per unit to the Voron Design project — the most accessible path to a Voron-class CoreXY without a multi-week DIY build.
7 linear rails, 4 independent Z motors with Quad-Gantry Leveling, and a flying CoreXY gantry — the core architecture of the Voron 2.4, pre-assembled and ready to print.
Ships with Klipper pre-configured with Input Shaper, Pressure Advance, adaptive mesh bed leveling, and Obico remote monitoring — no configuration required to start printing.
One of the largest open-frame CoreXY build volumes at this price tier. The AC-powered bed heats quickly and handles ABS, ASA, PC, and PA with a 300°C capable hotend.
Klipper enthusiasts, Voron fans who want a pre-built shortcut, and makers who want maximum build volume and open-source firmware at a prosumer price — without the DIY build time of a true Voron kit.
The SV08 is not ideal for beginners. While it ships 90% pre-assembled with Klipper pre-configured, it is a Klipper machine — tuning Input Shaper, diagnosing print issues, and maintaining 7 rails and 4 Z motors requires mechanical and software comfort. Start with a Bambu or Prusa if you are new to 3D printing; the SV08 rewards users who want control and don't mind occasional tinkering.
The SV08 Max (500×500×500 mm, announced June 2025) is a larger sibling — not a direct replacement for the standard SV08, which remains actively sold. If 350×350 mm meets your needs, the SV08 is a safe buy now. Best value during Black Friday or Sovol sale events.
These printers serve different buyers. The SV08 (~$529) is open-frame, open-source, runs Klipper, and provides a 350×350×345 mm build volume — more space, more control, more tinkering. The Bambu P2S ($599) is enclosed, plug-and-play, and handles engineering materials (ABS, ASA, PA) better thanks to its sealed chamber. Choose the SV08 for Klipper, large build volume, and open-source. Choose the P2S for enclosure, ease of use, and Bambu's ecosystem.
Very. The SV08 ships with Klipper firmware (fully open source), hardware design files on GitHub, and is compatible with OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer, and other Klipper tools. Sovol donates $2 per SV08 sold to the Voron Design project and actively supports community modifications.
Yes, with caveats. As an open-frame printer, ambient temperature swings can cause warping on ABS and ASA. Adding an enclosure (the optional Sovol glass enclosure at $159–179, or a DIY solution) significantly improves results on engineering materials. PA (nylon) requires thorough filament drying and ideally an enclosure for best results.
