The Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra, released September 2024, is Elegoo's entry-level MSLA resin flagship. Its 9K monochrome LCD (8520×4320 pixels, 18µm XY resolution) and one-click automatic leveling bring prosumer-grade detail to an entry price of around $269. The tilt-release mechanism enables print speeds up to 150 mm/hr — significantly faster than older entry resin printers. Important: resin printing requires IPA washing and UV curing post-processing — not recommended as a first 3D printer.
The 9K monochrome LCD (18µm XY accuracy) delivers crisp miniature and jewelry detail at a price point that was prosumer territory two years ago.
Smart sensor-based auto-leveling removes the most frustrating part of entry resin ownership — manual bed tramming is eliminated.
The tilt-release mechanism combined with a fast-curing monochrome LCD enables 150 mm/hr — completing small miniature batches in 30–60 minutes.
Miniature painters, hobby jewelers, and tabletop gamers who want 9K resin detail at an entry price — and who are prepared for the post-processing workflow of resin printing.
Resin printing delivers extraordinary detail but requires significant post-processing: prints must be washed in IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and cured under UV light. Liquid resin is a skin irritant and requires gloves, ventilation, and proper disposal. Resin is not recommended as a first 3D printer — start with FDM and move to resin when you have a specific need for its detail level.
No successor has been announced. The Mars 5 Ultra is Elegoo's current entry flagship and a well-reviewed, mature product. If you need a 9K entry resin printer, it is a safe buy now — best value at Prime Day or Black Friday when Elegoo typically discounts 15–25%.
The Mars 5 Ultra ($269) offers 9K resolution with a 153×77×165 mm build volume at an entry price. The Photon Mono M7 Pro ($459) steps up to 14K resolution, a larger 223×126×230 mm build volume, auto resin refill, and integrated vat heating. If budget is the priority and build volume is sufficient, the Mars 5 Ultra is excellent value. For larger prints or a more automated workflow, the M7 Pro justifies the premium.
After printing: (1) wash parts in IPA or a dedicated wash solution to remove uncured resin, (2) cure under UV light (a UV curing station is recommended), (3) remove supports and sand if needed. Allow ~20–30 minutes of post-processing per print.
The Mars 5 Ultra works with any 405nm UV-curing resin — standard, water-washable, ABS-like, high-speed, and plant-based. Most third-party 405nm resins from brands like Elegoo, Siraya Tech, and Anycubic are compatible.
